AESTHETIC SKIN CONSULTATION IN LONDON

During a skin consultation, our highly skilled and experienced Aesthetic Practitioners will carry out a skin scanning analysis using the Observ 520 ®. This modern technology is safe, proven and effective and provides our patients with a visual understanding of the deeper layers of their skin.

We are committed to utilising the industry’s leading technology to reveal and target skin concerns before you can even see them. Many skin concerns start deep under the surface which makes them difficult to be assess with the human eye. This is why we use the Observ at the start of your journey with us and throughout your treatment course to monitor your results.

All patients who have received a recommended treatment or product plan are eligible for one 30-minute free review appointment with their Aesthetic Practitioner. If additional reviews are required to discuss your concerns or results, a £25 fee per review will apply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some frequently asked questions from our customers to help you find the
answers you’re looking for faster.

Without continued treatment and potential lifestyle changes to help keep your skin clear, we cannot guarantee that your skin condition won’t flare up again in future due to stress or other factors. However, we can guarantee that no matter what condition your skin is in, we are here for you to help you through it. Our expert doctors and dermatologists will work with you to create a bespoke treatment plan that you are happy with, in order to deliver the best and most effective results.

Yes, verrucae are contagious and can easily spread in areas where people often have bare feet, such as public swimming pools.

All of our procedures are carried out in clinical, sterilised operating rooms by doctors with many years of experience both practising, and following strict medical protocols. This means you can rest assured that all of our procedures are very safe.

The level of comfort depends on the removal technique recommended. Laser removal is virtually pain-free. In more sensitive areas, it is described as feeling like the flick of an elastic band. If you’re having either excision removal or cryotherapy, the area will be numbed with a local anaesthetic to ensure you are comfortable. After treatment the skin left behind may be tender for a few days and will need to be covered. It’s also best to use a high-factor sunscreen on the area for six months, as it will be more sensitive to sunlight.

Verrucae are easily contracted through direct contact to a verruca with healthy skin. It is also possible to develop a verruca through contact with objects that have been touched by the infected skin, such as towels, shoes and socks. As verrucae are contagious, the best prevention is to treat them as soon as possible to avoid them spreading.

Some patients with sensitive skin worry that this will be a problem, but with the use of anaesthetic cream, almost anyone can comfortably have laser therapy to remove unwanted birthmarks.

In more sensitive areas, birthmark removal is described as feeling like the flick of an elastic band. You may experience some redness and bruising in the area following treatment, but once this subsides you will see a permanent fading of your birthmark.

Birthmark removal at DSL Clinic is completely safe and is only carried out by medical doctors in clinical environments. We work to strict protocols and have access to some of the UK’s leading doctors and dermatologists.

The laser energy is selectively targeted to the faulty blood vessels or built-up pigment cells only, meaning that surrounding tissues are not affected and there is no lasting damage to the skin. Lasers have been used to remove birthmarks for years, and we will ensure that the laser settings we use are safe and effective for your skin.

A common mole is a coloured spot on the skin that develops when pigment cells (melanocytes) grow in clusters. The medical term for moles is melanocytic naevi and most adults usually have between 10 and 40 on their body. Although common moles may be present at birth, they usually appear later in childhood and increase during teenage years. During pregnancy moles often get darker and they can fade away completely from around the age of 50.

Most moles are harmless. However, sometimes they can develop into a form of skin cancer called malignant melanoma. If you notice new moles or existing moles that have changed shape, colour, size, height, or if they become irritated or start bleeding, then it’s important you go to your GP immediately to get them checked and the next steps for urgent removal are discussed if applicable.

Acne scars can be stubborn and seemingly permanent, but there are proven effective acne scar treatments that diminish the appearance of acne scarring. The best treatment for your skin will depend on the type of acne scarring you have. Before you have treatment, a DSL Clinic’s dermatologist, nurse or acne practitioner should assess your acne scars and select the most appropriate treatment for you.

There will be a small white scar where the skin tag has been removed. Otherwise, complications are rare and you can go home as soon as your anaesthetic wears off.

The treatment will completely remove your skin tag; however there will be a small white scar where the removal took place.

Everyone can have a skincare consultation. Some skincare products contain retinoids, so if you are pregnant or thinking of conceiving let us know and we will tailor the skincare regime accordingly.

Prior to using any new skincare products you should always check that you aren’t allergic to the ingredients in the product. We recommend applying a small test patch either to the inner arm or behind the ear, to ensure you do not have an allergic reaction. As many of the skincare products we recommend are medical-grade, they can result in peeling or redness of the skin, in which case you should reduce the frequency of use.You will be advised on any special instructions for using the skincare products, or if you are having aesthetic treatments in conjunction with the skincare regime.

If your skincare regime includes topical Vitamin A products (including retinols) then you should ensure that you use a daily broad spectrum sunblock (SPF50+) and these products should be used in the evening.

The consultation duration can take anywhere between 30 minutes and 1 hour, depending on the treatment that will be done, and whether or not a patch test will be required. We also allow for enough time to answer any questions you may have around the treatment plan.

Results will vary from patient to patient and are dependent on factors such as age and lifestyle, but with ongoing adherence to the regime, you should start to see an overall improvement in the appearance of your skin. Our cosmetic procedure assessment’s of the results involve a great deal of subjectivity. Therefore, it is important to understand that while you will be advised of the probable result, this should in no way be interpreted as a guarantee.

We recommend a review every 2-3 months for follow-up photographs and to assess the effectiveness of the skincare programme. In general we’d expect you to see an improvement in the appearance of your skin from 3 months.
