Verrucas, also known as plantar warts, are small, hard, rough growths that appear on the bottom of the feet. They are caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which enters through tiny cuts or breaks in the skin.

Because of their location on the soles, verrucas often grow inward due to body pressure, and may feel like a painful stone when walking.

Causes:
    •    HPV infection (skin-to-skin or surface contact)
    •    Walking barefoot in communal areas (pools, showers)
    •    Weak immune system
    •    Skin cuts or abrasions on feet
    •    Sharing socks or shoes

Symptoms:
    •    Small, rough, grainy growth on foot sole
    •    Black dots (clotted blood vessels)
    •    Pain while walking or pressure
    •    May spread to other areas

Treatment Options:
    •    Cryotherapy (freezing the wart)
    •    Laser wart removal
    •    Salicylic acid topical treatment
    •    Electrosurgery or curettage
    •    Immune-boosting medication
    •    Foot hygiene education to prevent recurrence

With proper care, verrucas can be effectively removed and further spread prevented.
