Shave
Shave the treatment area the night before your appointment.
No Wax
Do not wax in the 4 weeks leading up to the treatment. The hair follicle necessitates the pigment for the laser. It helps to identify the hair and make the treatment effective.
Avoid direct sunlight
Avoid displaying the patch to direct sunlight for 2 weeks before your treatment, and always preserve the skin with sunscreen.
Post care
Patients may experience some mild heat and redness in areas that have been treated after undergoing the laser hair removal process. Soothe any redness and sensitivity with Institut Laser Aid. This can be utilised for 3-5 days or until the skin recovers to its pretreatment state.
Things to avoid
For 24 hours post laser hair removal treatment, avoid shaving, waxing, plucking hair, exfoliation, excessive sweating, swimming or saunas, scorching showers, and tight restrictive clothing.
Avoid presenting the area to direct sunlight for 2 weeks after your therapy, and always use the Institut Age Defence 50+ to preserve the skin and maintain results.
Skincare
We recommend Institut Glycolic Scrub 14% for 5 days post-treatment. This ensures the hair is encouraged to shed from the follicle and aid in treating ingrown hairs.

How It Works

Pre and After Care Instructions
Pre and After Care Instructions Pre Care Instructions
- The area must be cleanly shaved within 24 hours before the treatment. Electric razors are not recommended as the hair is typically left too long.
- Factor 30/50 must be worn daily, or the area has to be sufficiently covered with clothing to prevent UV exposure (Invisible Zinc is great for sensitive skin).
- Do not tweeze, wax or pluck the area being treated between or prior to sessions. Only shave the area.
- The laser hair removal treatment area needs to be free from makeup, lotion, deodorant, and sun cream- inform the practitioner if you require wipes.
- The area cannot be treated if exposed to the sun within 4 weeks before treatment.
- Fake tanning products CANNOT be used 3-4 weeks before treatment; the area should be thoroughly exfoliated to remove all residues.
- To reduce pain during treatment on small areas such as the bikini and underarm, Emla 5% ( numbing cream) can be applied two hours before treatment to minimise discomfort. Copious amounts of the cream should be applied to the area. It MUST be covered with cling film or a non-stick adhesive dressing, and this can all be purchased by a chemist.
After Care Instructions
- Factor 30/50 must be worn daily, or the area has to be sufficiently covered with thick enough clothing to prevent UV exposure.
- After the laser hair removal treatment, the area may look noticeably red (erythema) or swollen (edema) throughout each follicle. The area can be cooled again after the treatment to reduce the inflammation. This redness may last 2 hours up to several days after the treatment depending on the individual.
- The hair will be shed after the treatment within 1-3 weeks.
- Do not tweeze, wax or pluck the area being treated between or prior to sessions. Only shave the area.
- Exfoliation can help the hairs shed faster (please wait a minimum of 1 week after the treatment to do this).
- Hot showers and baths are not advisable for a minimum of 48 hours after the laser hair removal treatment. Only a cool shower should be taken.
- Deodorant must be avoided for 12 hours; it can be used so long as the skin is not irritated.
- Exercise is not recommended for 48 hours after the treatment as this will reheat the area and may cause discomfort.
- Itching after treatments may occur, topical hydrocortisone or Benadryl can be applied to alleviate this, or an oral antihistamine can be taken (Claritin is better for day use to prevent drowsiness).
- If you change your medication, you must inform the clinic more than 48 hours before treatment.
- Your Practitioner will advise you on the gaps between the laser hair removal treatments as they can vary on the area of the body and depending on the results from the previous treatment. Typically the face will be every 4 weeks and the body every 6-8 weeks.

One of the benefits of Laser Hair Removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing. Each pulse lasts less than a second, producing a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a rubber band snap on the skin. We use an advanced cooling machine in conjunction with our laser device to reduce the heat sensation on the skin and minimise any discomfort.
There are no conclusive studies on laser being safe or unsafe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. We advise our pregnant and breastfeeding clients to obtain medical clearance prior to proceeding with treatment.
No, unfortunately, we cannot treat over tattoos with our laser. We can treat around the tattooed areas with a gap of 3cm.
